The Borough of Carteret, a small blue-collar community which sits on the
Arthur Kill waterway, a few yards from the shores of Hills One and Nine
of the Fresh Kills Land fill, remembers what the city of New York seeks
to forget. That the Remains of Those Lost at the WTC on The
plaque has been placed on the waterfront pier which faces Hills One and
Nine.
It pays homage to the Victims which are interred in the landfill. The borough was one of the 157 communities which passed a resolution in support of the removal of the ashen remains, bone fragments, and human tissue from the landfill for a proper burial. Mayor, Dan Reiman, Council President Ronald Rios, and Council members have demonstrated their commitment “Never To Forget”.
